Medical errors reduced with E-prescriptions

Prescriptions mix-ups kill at least 7,000 people each year according to a study by a National Institute of Medicine.

Sending prescription electronically will reduce the number of errors that occur.

Only 10 to 15 percent of doctors use e-prescriptions. The federal government is already pushing Medicare providers to switch to the system.

Not all medicines can be prescribed electronically; heavy painkillers and sedatives must be written on special paper prescription
