Federal drug safety officials have imposed the government most urgent warning on Bayer's AG Cipro, and similar antibiotics; they can cause serious tendon injury that leave some patients incapacitated.

Labels for the antibiotic already include caution about the tendon problems, but boxed warning would be stronger, according to the FDA

The risk is grater in patients 60 and older, those using concomitant steroid therapy and those who have had certain organ transplants.
