FDA adds survival warning to anemia drug labels

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration ordered that warnings on the labels note that Amgen Inc's, Aranesp and other anemia drugs have been shown to impair survival in some cancer patients. The drugs shortened survival or caused rapid tumor growth.

The FDA affixed a warning to the labels of Aranesp, Procrit as well as Amgen's Epogen after studies showed increased risk of death for some patients. There has been steady negative news about the drugs.
