BlogClinical trial of deep brain stimulation for depression
Posted by: David Patton Depression affects at least 1 in 7 adults. The condition is a major cause of both disability and suicide. Now a study published online in the journal Biological Psychiatry suggests that patients with treatment-resistant depression could benefit from a technique called deep brain stimulation (DBS). The experimental surgical technique involves the implantation of a brain pacemaker into a specified area of the brain. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved DBS as a treatment for Parkinson's disease as well. http://scienceblogs.com/neurophilosophy/2008/07/clinical_trial_of_deep_brain_s.php#more Topics
